Happy New Year!! Hope you had a good Hogmanay and aren’t too “tired” this morning. Such a classic line I’m not hungover I’m just tired.
Have you made a New Years Resolution yet? If not I have a perfect one for you. If you have one New Years Resolution. Make it to Be Happy and Smile More. Let’s face it the world can be a pretty rubbish place, right now there is so much misery, uncertainty and just general negative vibes. We all have shit days, weeks or months but it’s important to try focus on the positives. Sometimes this is easier said than done. I want to talk you through some of the ways I found help.
The obvious one is to surround yourself with positive people. Get rid of those negative drains in your life. The people who are never happy, that bring you down and critique them. Again this is easier said than done, especially when they are in your family or you can’t avoid them. Also if you are a complete introvert and hates confrontation. Simple ways to do are hiding them on Facebook so you don’t see their posts and they are limited to seeing your posts but you don’t have that awkward conversation of you deleted me off Facebook! Take breaks from Social Media – take a day off every week. It’s so draining and actually a relief sometimes to have a break.
There’s a never-ending list of books being constantly released about mindfulness, happiness, positivity and the such. I have 3 recommendations.
This book focuses on Gretchen Rubin’s quest for happiness and what is happiness. The good thing about this is in her book she mentions and sums up many other books on Happiness so if you read one book I recommend this one. She has other supplementary products like planners and a podcast too.
The tagline for this book is The Best Selling Book everyone is talking about. It’s true, I thought it was a spoof, to begin with but actually, it was a really good book. That put everything in perspective and I do think I am starting to give less of a fuck about things.
This is a different concept, whereby you get up an hour early and have an hour a day making yourself a better person. Having a bit of me time each morning. Initially, you think nah I’m okay, I’d be happier with an hour extra sleep but then when you do it you become obsessed. I did it for a while and would love to get back into it. Again there are loads on Pinterest and Facebook support groups about this and what people do.
There are loads of books, Pinterest boards, and sites dedicated to daily things to go to spread some happiness. Miranda Hart brought out one for Comic Relief. So I challenge you to do one thing each day to make yourself smile. Use a book or write a list of things that make you happy and do one thing each day. Step outside your comfort zone, laugh, dance. Even put your pants on the radiator the night before so when you get dressed in the morning your bum is nice and cozy. I have the Miranda book and another few books and a Pinterest Board. I am going to try and post a happiness challenge each day on Instagram. Choosing between the different lists to find ones I’d rather do.
