Baby Driver: Movie Review

Baby Driver Movie Review

On Wednesday night my husband and I went to go see Baby Driver at the Odeon. If you’ve read before, we have the Odeon Limitless Cards and so try to go at least once a week. I’ll be honest this didn’t look like my kind of film based on the trailer it looked like a bit of a fast and furious knock off I thought.

I was wrong.

The film was amazing. It focuses on a young guy named Baby (played by Fault in our Stars Actor, Ansel Egort) who is a reluctant getaway driver for Doc (played by the brilliant Kevin Spacey), Baby is seen throughout the film with headphones in or listening to music, this is to drown out the ‘hum in the drum’ he has in his ears from a car accident when he was younger. There is a great cast with a nearly unrecognisable Jon Hamm as one of the members of Doc’s crew as well as Jamie Foxx, Lily James and Sky Ferreria makes a brief appereance.

Baby Driver Movie Review

The film is really cleverly made as everything is syncopated with the music. There is a massive range of music playing and it is choreographed so well. The opening credits are really cleverly choreographed with the music.  The film feels like a musical in some ways but not the cheesy type of musical. Jamie Foxx was recently interviewed and said that they had the music playing in earphones when shooting to the movie to ensure the timing of the key moments linked with the music.

It is a clever story and there are some really funny bits in the movie. It has the right balance of action, car chases, romance, and humour. It’d be a good movie for date night I think.

The film is so much more than a car chase film, it’s a smart movie with a great storyline. Although saying that I did drive away listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival feeling like I am on top of the world! The soundtrack is a must listen!

Have you seen Baby Driver yet? What did you think?

Pizza Express Edinburgh: Date Night

Pizza Express Queensferry

Pizza Express Queensferry

My husband and I try to go on a date night once a month. We tried to do Alphabet Dates but kept forgetting what letter we were on! Last weekend we went for a meal out in Edinburgh followed by a few drinks. We went to Pizza Express in Queensferry Road in the West End of Edinburgh. I love Pizza Express – the food is always so tasty and the service is always so good.

Pizza Express Queensferry Pizza Express Queensferry Pizza Express Queensferry

There is a new summer menu at Pizza Express and included on this are some summer cocktails. I tried both! First, there was the ‘Gin Spritz’ – which was Bombay Sapphire gin served with a Cucumber and Mint Belvoir Presse. It was nice and refreshing but I thin cucumber is such an acquired taste, you either love it or hate it. The second drink I tried was the Hugo St. Germain – this was Prosecco with Elderflower liqueur, lemon, and mint. This was my favorite of the two. I could drink this all day. Again I think Elderflower is one of them tastes you either love or hate but I think it is perfect for the summer.

For starters, my husband and I shared the Dough Balls Doppio. I love the dough balls at Pizza Express. They are the best starter there, especially with the various dipping sauces- Pesto, Garlic Butter and ‘pestorissa’, a harissa spiced tomato dip. I think the sharing portion was perfect for 2 to share and although there were other wonderful sounding starters like the Antipasto or the Bruschetta. I wanted to make sure I left enough room for the main course!

Pizza Express Queensferry Pizza Express Queensferry

I opted for the Zapparoli which is described as ‘Chicken, hot soft ‘nduja sausage, mozzarella, garlic oil and Gran Milano cheese on smoky, creamed corn, finished with red Roquito pearls and parsley’ It was one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten! It was so flavourful, in fact just writing this post I am dreaming of the taste of the pizza again. This has been the first pizza in ages that I ate the whole thing! The red Roquito pearls were my favorite bit of the pizza – they should be on every pizza in my opinion! My Husband had an American Pizza on a classic base. He loved it and ate up every last bit of it too! Must have been good.

The great thing about Pizza Express is it caters for all; there was a whole range of groups in from birthday celebrations, to large groups and families with young kids. We were on a date night and it and still felt intimate enough. That is the worst thing I find with eating out, sometimes you feel like you are just another customer of a generic chain restaurant company. The menu has something for everyone and the food always tastes so fresh.

Pizza Express Queensferry Pizza Express Queensferry

For pudding, I opted for the Coconut Delight – described as “Two scoops of intensely creamy, dairy-free, coconut sorbet, made with coconut milk and coconut pieces, served with fresh mint”. I am a massive coconut fan but I wasn’t so sure about this – it tasted like it had a little too much desicated coconut in it.  I couldn’t eat it all. However, it’s great to see more dairy-free options on the menu as someone who sometimes needs to go Dairy Free. This would be nice blended up as a summer cocktail too!

My husband is a self-confessed chocolate addict so naturally, he went for the Chocolate Fondant ‘PizzaExpress’ described as “A rich and intense warm chocolate cake with a soft melting center, served with vanilla gelato, fresh mint, and icing sugar” for me after a big meal I couldn’t imagine chocolate. But he said it was amazing – admittedly it did look really good!

Pizza Express Queensferry Pizza Express Queensferry

Overall the service and experience at Pizza Express was amazing. The new summer menu all sounds so delicious that I need to go back and try out the other new dishes on offer. There is a lot more on offer for Vegans and the great thing about Pizza Express is that it also caters for Gluten Free diets too. The Pizza Express in Queensferry Road is great as the back door exits straight into the beer garden of Indigo Yard – which is perfect for after dinner cocktails and it is a short walk away to Gin71 which is where we ended up before our carriage (Uber) whisked us away!

You can check out your nearest Pizza Express and the full menu here!

*Thank You to Pizza Express for inviting me to try out their new summer menu. My meal was complimentary as payment for this post, however, all views and opinion are my own.

Embracing the Selfie with The Cotton Co’s Selfie Bag.

The Cotton Co. Selfie Bag

Selfies have totally taken over. I still feel I need to fully embrace them. I always get a bit awkward when taking a selfie and hate asking people to get together for a picture too. You may have seen that when Alas, I need to embrace photos more as I do love looking back over photos to remember moments in time.

The Cotton Co. Selfie Bag
The Cotton Bag Company kindly sent me a Selfie Bag to help with perfecting a selfie. The bag is a gorgeous pattern design that has an inbuilt pocket for valuables, a pocket for your selfie stick to make sure it is always at reach. The bag also has a unique reflective sheet that means you can hold under your face to ensure the perfect lighting each time for a selfie!

The Cotton Co. Selfie Bag
To begin with, I wasn’t sure about the logistics of holding the sheet up to your face and holding the phone in your other hand to take a picture but a little practice and you get there. The bag comes with a guide in order to get the perfect selfie – here’s a tip I recently picked up – instead of Cheese you should say Mocha for a smile and Prune for a pout. I tried both and still looked like Chandler Bing but you can try it!

The bag is very roomy and perfect for taking on day trips in the summer holiday. I am going to take it when I go on my tour of the Scottish Highlands and Islands this summer and perfect my selfie even more!

Where to buy a Selfie Bag

The Cotton Co. Selfie Bag
I love the unique and different idea of this bag and it would make a perfect gift for the aspiring Kim Kardashian in your life who loves a good Selfie. You can purchase the bags here  If Selfies aren’t your thing they are pretty bags that would be great on holiday too!

Thank You to Cotton Bag Co. for allowing me this opportunity to try out the bag and celebrate National Selfie Day.

My Date with a Book – Crafting Kates Etsy Shop Review

A Date With a Book - Crafting Kates

I have lost my reading mojo at the moment. I just cannot get into books or I am too tired to read. I think it is because I am not giving myself time to read. Does anyone else feel like that?

A Date With a Book - Crafting Kates

I, therefore, have forced myself into having some me time and had a Date with a Book, thanks to Crafting Kate. Kate creates a “Date with a Book’ set. Which is perfect. In the box – I received a hand wrapped book, label with a quote, bookmark, card, a handmade crochet coaster and arguably the best part – a Teabag! This was perfect and looked so cute I didn’t want to open it –  but then the other part of me was desperate to find out who my hot date was going to be!

A Date With a Book - Crafting Kates

A Date With a Book - Crafting Kates

I popped the kettle on and settled in with a chilled out playlist and unwrapped my book to find a Collection of Robert Browning Poems. Initially, I wasn’t so sure, I wouldn’t choose to pick up a poetry book. I haven’t read a poem since school, you know when you have to over analyse a poem so much down to the minute details of what the writer had on their sandwich the day before they wrote this poem. I think that took the joy of out poetry for me.  But then it dawned on me that is the beauty of these mystery packages. You find something you wouldn’t normally go for. I did try to read some but I don’t think poetry is for me, that was until my husband came home and saw I had a Robert Browning book. He studied Porphyria’s Lover at school. We read it and talked about how strange a poem it is, I even read the Spark Notes on it. Therefore the book was good at sparking an educated conversation with my husband.

A Date With a Book - Crafting Kates

The other great thing about the Date with a Book is that the book has a great vintage look to it. Which I am totally into. I love anything a bit quirky looking and so will display the book proudly on my bookshelf. The crochet coaster has been admired by many coming to my house too. It is the lasting memory of a great date! I may have to go for a second date soon!

Say It With Cake… Win a personalised Cake with Bakerdays

Baker Days - Personalised Cake in the Post!

Cake… Everybody Loves Cake!

Recently I have spoken about how I’m going through a bit of a low point with my mental health, I am on the mend at the moment and feeling a lot more positive. One thing that did help was how supportive people were being – there is also a downside of that and that is how I got to the lowest point. People would ask how I am and I would say, “I’m Fine” when we both knew I wasn’t. The biggest thing I struggled with was telling how I was feeling. It left us all in an awkward situation because people didn’t know what to say to me, I didn’t know what to say to people and I probably started shutting myself off from people for fear of awkward conversations.

I know too what it is like being on the other side of these conversations too. I am rubbish at thinking of the right thing to say and have the fear of saying the wrong thing so just don’t speak to someone who’s clearly having a rubbish time.

Baker Days - Personalised Cake in the Post!

I have tried the lemon drizzle cake and it was delicious! It was the perfect amount of moist and lemony. A beautiful treat to have with a cup of tea and a book! The Smile Tag

The Smile Tag

Thanks to Burgh Blogger for the tag. What a lovely idea the Smile Tag is, Sharing pictures of yourself smiling.

This may be a challenge as I hate pictures of myself and I smile like Chandler Bing in most photos but here we go!

JD and Husband

This picture is from a recent wedding we attended. The wedding was at Castle Campbell in Dollar and was such a stunning setting for a wedding. My Husband was a groomsman hence why he looks so handsome in a kilt. The sun came out just in time for the bride walking down the aisle after being quite an overcast day and so it was a perfect wedding.

I kinda like this photo of me as it was taken off guard, it’s a natural smile. It was taken on a family holiday in Aberfeldy, Perthshire.  The biggest thing here is I was going through a really rubbish time although I wasn’t ready to talk about it. I had been feeling down for a while and so this photo is quite emotional too as although I was smiling on the outside I wasn’t there on the inside.

This here is a really forced cheesy smile. But we were on It’s a Small World in Disneyland which arguably is the Happiest Place on Earth! I loved going to Disneyland and especially on this day as it was our first wedding anniversary. What a way to spend it- on a roasting hot day in a park full of kids! It was brilliant though!

So there we have 3 photos of me smiling, I am assuming you can post as many smiling photos as you want to but I’ve just gone with the three. I don’t want to tag people as I know the feeling you get under pressure to retag people and re-write a post but if your happy and you know it… SMILE!

Restaurant Review: The Raj, Edinburgh

Indian food is my favourite. I could eat it all day every day, I love how flavourful it is. I was also thinking the other day how bland looking and tasting traditional British Food is.

I recently was invited along to try out the new menu and visit the new restaurant. The Raj is a well established Indian, recently relocating from Leith to Blackhall. Blackhall is a 15 minute bus ride out of Edinburgh city centre and there are buses every few minutes. So it’s really handy to get to!

The Raj, Indian Restaurant Edinburgh

We received a warm welcome and were impressed by the restaurant. The menu was impressive, there was almost too much choice, everything sounded so good!

Whilst we were waiting for our starters we had poppadoms and chutneys. We got a tray with 5 chutneys. Mango Chutney, yoghurt and coriander, mint sauce, spiced onions and my personal favourite an Apple Chutney which is made on the premises. I used to never be bothered about chutneys and poppadoms however I definitely recommend them here purely for the Apple Chutney!

For starters,  I opted for the Mysore Bonda, which is deep fried potatoes with a coconut chutney. I am a glutton for anything coconut flavoured. These were so tasty. They tasted a bit like a donut, that kind of batter. Matched with the coconut Chutney it was delicious. My husband opted for samosa. It was also delicious. The waiter also brought us their speciality dish, Lal Michi, this was chopped marinaded chicken (although also available with lamb) with mango chutney and spices and served on an onion Bhaji.  This was one of the best Indian starters I have ever had. The flavours were wonderful and although there was a spice it wasn’t over powering.

I tried the Mango Lassi, which was delicious and you could tell was very freshly made! I love lassi, it’s a bit like a fruity youghurty drink if you’ve not tried one, I highly recommend it! I also had a half pint of Kingfisher, it wouldn’t be an Indian without beer right?

For mains, I opted for the Aromatic Lamb, on the waiter’s recommendation. Lamb is not something I normally order although I’m really starting to get into it! This lamb dish was again so flavourful, it came in a dish with spinach, mushrooms, and garlic. I know I keep saying that it was so flavourful but it really was. It wasn’t like sometimes at Indians when the spices overpower the flavour and so your mouth is on fire and you cannot taste anything. My husband had the Chicken Patia, this is his normal favourite and he was not disappointed here. We ordered a naan and rice between us which was plenty, in fact, I even took some of the curry and naan bread home for leftovers.

After the meal we were brought a dessert plate, this was a plate with fruit, custard, and various baked fruit tasters. Although I was stuffed full this was a nice small plate. This is complimentary to all diners and is a welcome addition. In addition to this, all diners are also offered a complimentary liquer or liquer coffee. This is an excellent touch and shows what the Raj is all about. Great customer service and great authentic South Asian food!

The restaurant has a buffet on a Sunday and Monday, which is £10.95 for the choice of over 50 dishes. This may be the way forward as there is so much good food on the menu. I will definitely be going back to The Raj and recommend you go too!

*Please note I was invited along for a complimentary meal at The Raj to review their new menu. Views and photos are my own.

What did I think of the Baywatch Movie?

To me, it feels like they have been going on about this film for forever. There has been so much hype about it. Those of a certain generation will remember watching the Hoff and Pamela Anderson running around the beach fighting really obscure crimes on a beach whilst running in slow motion and bouncing in all the right places. I had a Baywatch Barbie- she was awesome!  If you are too young to remember this may struggle to get some of the jokes in this film.

Baywatch Barbie

The film is ultimately a spoof of Baywatch the TV Show. The characters are the same – there are Mitch, CJ and Stephanie, the main 3 lifeguards from the show. I don’t really know what I was expecting from the film, but it was strange in all honesty. It has a strong cast with The Rock and Zac Efron offering male eye candy and Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera play the role of attractive female lifeguards. FYI the film barely passes the Bechdel Test, the women rarely speak to each other, except about the males. Pamela Anderson and The Hoff do make cameo appearances in the movie too.

The film is full of action and excitement. There are a lot of good one-liners in the film. Mostly coming from Dwayne Johnson, who has a great delivery which is also been apparent in the various promotions and interviews I’ve seen him in recently.

I don’t know if I enjoyed the film; when it finished I was totally like nah that was stupid I didn’t enjoy it. However, as I think about it more and more I think it wasn’t that bad. I would probably watch it again. I just can’t tell. Don’t go expecting to see an Oscar worthy movie, it’s a predictable film, with cheap jokes and a lot of boobs and a few instances of penises (which actually on reflection you don’t often see in movies)

There we go there’s my one sentence review –

Baywatch – More penises than 50 Shades of Grey… (You can have that for the DVD cover!)

The Movie of My Life – Blogger Writing Challenge

The Movie of My Life - Blogger Writing Challenge

I am trying something a little bit different, so run with it.

Welcome to The Movie of My Life. I hope that these prompts will spark a little bit of conversation and give a little insight into your life. You don’t need to be a blogger to participate; you could write your answers in a  Facebook Status, a Blog Comment, on a scrap of paper. You could create a mock-up Movie poster if you really want!

The Movie Of My Life - Blogger Writing Prompt - Juniper Daze

The Idea

Using the below prompts, explain a little about The Movie of Your Life. Imagine a Hollywood producer has heard all about you and wants to make a Movie of Your Life. Remember you have creative control, you choose what goes in the movie! You can choose to explain as much or as little about why you have made your choices. You can add in as many characters, songs, descriptions as you want! Once you have answered the questions, nominate a few other bloggers or people to write about the movie of their life! Please link back to the original post ( too! Use the Hashtag #MovieofMyLife on Twitter so we can read each other’s movies!

The Prompts

The Title:

“When Life Gives You Lemons…” – I really like this saying, I use it quite a lot and often it is what I need to consider when hurdles come into my life.

Starring: (Choose however many people you want to star in your movie)

Jennifer Lawrence as Steph – I love Jennifer Lawrence, I think she has the right amount of awkwardness and humour as me. Also she is beautiful and you know it’s my movie, I could look like that right?!

David Tennant as my husband – Again, it’s my movie and it’s Holywood anything is possible! David Tennant has the right amount of cool but geeky that my husband is.

Emma Thomson as my Mum – My mum has played a big part in my life and so I would need a strong female actress to portray her. I think Emma Thompson is the right person.

Tom Hanks as my University Lecturer – Okay I’ve said it so many times I wish Robert Langdon from Dan Brown’s novels were my Uni Lecturer, but we will settle for Tom Hanks being my university lecturer and perhaps dissertation supervisor. (I am really playing with artistic license here)

Pretenders: Don’t Get Me Wrong – This is going to be played over the opening credits, I think an introduction to me. A montage of my daily life. I always listen to this song when I am on a power walk somewhere, it just gets me in the right frame of mind. Jennifer Lawrence and David Tenant are just going about their everyday lives.

The Temper Trap: Sweet Disposition – This is going to be played when I am probably at University. I imagine a scene with me losing the will to live over a stupid essay that is due in five hours and I’ve no idea what king or queen or century these events took place in but I am powering through. Maybe it ends with my going to see Tom Hanks.

The Time Warp – This has to be featured at some point in the middle. Probably towards the end of Uni, maybe at my graduation. It is not a party if the Time Warp is not cracked out.

You Make My Dreams Come True – Hall and Oates – This was the song we played at our wedding after we got married so it has to feature. However, there would be a dance break like on 500 days of summer.

Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles – The end of the Movie would end on an inspirational high. With this song playing over the end credits. People will be inspired by my amazing life and boom!

Filming Location:

I think I would stick to Scotland as a filming location. In and around Edinburgh. Of course we could feature some of my favorite holidays in the movie and of course, I would be an executive producer and need to, therefore, go on these holidays. Remember that time when I hired a whole island. . .

Poster Tagline:

She’s taken her lemons and made Gin and Tonic…

Enjoyed This? You Might like . . .

Some films that are like the Movie of my Life

Bridget Jones – I don’t know anyone who cannot relate to Bridget Jones in some way. I can relate to Bridget Jones in far too many ways.

Miss Congeniality – I am that awkward person that doesn’t really do makeup or beauty and would be so out of place in a beauty pageant.

Eat Pray Love – You know that inspired warm fuzzy feeling you get at the end of this film. That’s what you will feel when you watch the movie of my life.

I Nominate

Burgh Blogger – My real life blogger friend. She loves a movie as much as me.

Hollie Ann – I love Hollie Ann’s blog and she’s so lovely.

Zoe from Little Ray of Sunshine – I Love Zoe’s Blog and ideas for injecting some happiness into your life.

Rachael at Gatsby and Glamour – Despite me saying I hate beauty – I love Rachael’s blog – she posts honest reviews about make up and beauty products but also has thee cutest dogs!

Amie at The Curvaceous Vegan – I love Amie’s blog, it’s so pretty and purple. She also has a great writing style that is so relatable.

These are the 5 bloggers I nominate for the Movie of My Life blog challenge. I hope it’s just a bit of fun and different way to get to know other bloggers! Let me know what you think!

How to have a Self-Care Day and Self-Care Pack Giveaway!

Self Care Pack - How to do a Self Care Day

It is important to have a ‘self-care or ‘me’ day’ – especially when you are feeling really really rubbish. You’ve got to remember you cannot give anything to anyone if you have nothing yourself. Lately, I feel like I have been running on empty, bottling up my stress and frustrations and making myself ill. I am trying to maintain the persona of someone who has their shit together. Someone who has it all under control whilst underneath I have been drowning in a sea of bullshit. I plan on writing a post all about this once I find the words to say.

Self Care Pack - How to do a Self Care Day

So I have taken some me days. Some self-care days. It is important to refocus myself and get back on track. As this week is Mental Health Awareness Week I thought I would share some tips and ideas as to how to have a self-care day and also I have a giveaway where I will be sending someone a self-care pack!

How to have a Self-Care Day

The thing is you will know yourself what you need. Some may need exercise, others just want to sleep, others will need to keep busy. Listen to your body if you are tired go sleep. Have a bubble bath in the middle of the day. Read a Book. For me, I cannot concentrate when I am feeling low. My mind is a flurry of ideas and thoughts – I currently have 15 tabs open on my web browser, and I have no idea what ones I need. So last night I went on Pinterest and printed out a whole bunch of printables and put them all in a folder. This has helped me compartmentalize my thoughts and to- do’s. I find that writing things down helps me massively. Here are some ideas from Zoe – You can find her blog Little Ray of Sunshine here

Self Care Pack - How to do a Self Care Day

Some other ideas are: Reading a Self Help book – ones I really enjoyed were Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod and Quiet by Susan Cain. These were easy to read and relatable; although I know for others they are not into that. Also, the app Headspace is really good for 10 minutes to chill out.

I have been anti -medication for a while; just because I thought that I wanted to ‘get over it myself’ but sometimes you need a little help and so I am on medication. However, you may want to look down the line of herbal medicine as well. I don’t claim to be an expert but I have heard that Red Reishi has good health benefits and can boost your immune system.

Self Care Pack Giveaway

Sometimes for me, all I need is to curl up on the couch with my duvet and cozy clothes. I love my Heat Holders socks for this. They keep me warm and cozy and are like a hug for your feet! I love to curl up with a cup of tea and put something on Netflix that I probably will then fall asleep watching. But that’s okay!

Self-Care Pack Giveaway

Pinterest is full of ideas for inspiration of how you can take some me time. You can find my Anxiety/ Mindfulness Board here!

Self Care Pack - How to do a Self Care Day

So now that I have shared some tips on Self Care, I felt that I would love to share some Self Care Love. I am giving away a box of Self Care goodies – Including a Pair of Heat Holders Socks (worth £5.99), A Months supply of Red Reishi Tablets ( worth £35.99), a Notebook from 2LittleBoys (my current fave stationery company!) some Colour therapy books and pencils along with other surprises for you to have a self-care day your way!
